About Us

The Savannah and Sahara Organization for Relief and Development is one of the institutions working in the humanitarian field at the level of Sudan and the region. It is an independent charitable organization with multiple activities that provides its humanitarian services to those in need in Sudan and neighboring countries without discrimination or fanaticism, far from interference in politics or existing conflicts.
This organization was established during the current year 2024 when a number of members of the Savannah and Sahara Entity called for the necessity of collecting funds to spend them to resist the trinity of danger (war, poverty and disease) and to confront the growing needs of local communities in war zones, after the rise in rates of disease, poverty and unemployment in the majority of Sudan's states.
In appreciation of the citizen's need, and based on the humanitarian orientations of the Savannah and Sahara Entity, the entity officially approved its establishment, provided that the organization would have a legal personality, headquartered in the Sudan, South Darfur state Nyala City, and that it may establish branches outside the Sudan, and carry out its activities in accordance with the provisions of its statute.
To be the leading organization in the field of relief, preventing the effects of war disasters, and fighting poverty through development

The deterioration of the health system and the increasing spread of diseases

The national health system in some states is barely functioning and is essentially at a standstill, with serious challenges in providing medical supplies and fuel to hospitals and primary health care centres. The child immunization program is collapsing, and infectious diseases are spreading, with reports of more than 11,000 suspected cases of cholera, more than 4,660 cases of measles, more than 8,300 suspected cases of dengue fever, and nearly 1.3 million cases of malaria worldwide. All over the country. The inadequate level of basic social services, such as water, sanitation and hygiene, has exacerbated the health emergency and disease outbreak.

The World Health Organization reports that there have been approximately 5,000 measles cases, including 106 deaths, and a case fatality rate of 2.27 percent as of March 15, 2024. However, this only represents data from areas that are accessible and likely That hides a much bigger problem in hard to reach places. Measles outbreaks have also occurred in areas hosting large numbers of displaced children. The risk of a measles outbreak will also be exceptionally high for mobile populations, including displaced people, refugees and others in camps. The risk of outbreaks of all vaccine-preventable diseases is at its highest level since the outbreak of conflict. National routine immunization coverage (third dose of pentavalent vaccine) against diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus has declined significantly, while the Darfur region reported only 30 percent coverage of immunization (third dose of pentavalent vaccine) against diphtheria and tetanus. . A new emergence of circulating poliovirus type 2 (CVPV2) has also been reported from the environmental monitoring site in Port Sudan, UNICEF reports. While children paralyzed by vaccine-associated poliovirus type 2 have not yet been reported, the potential for transmission between children is very high.

The specter of famine looms large over Sudan

Initial reports issued by international humanitarian organizations and agencies indicate the risk of Sudan sliding into a severe food crisis, sometimes described as “famine,” as United Nations agencies say that millions of Sudanese face low levels of food insecurity.

In mid-April, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that the violent conflict in Sudan had exacerbated food insecurity and malnutrition, put 5 million people one step away from famine, and made 18 million suffer from acute food insecurity. .

On the other hand, Sudanese officials confirm that the situation in the country is not at the level that repeated international reports portray, and that what some parts of the country are suffering is the result of the exceptional war situation that has led to “a food shortage that cannot be contained.”
